The narrator protagonist, a fellow named Travis, mostly exists to be our eyes and ears in this mad world. Along the way, they meet other survivors of questionable sanity, who soon become as much of a threat to their lives as the jam itself. It’s up to a band of earnest survivors–made up of people who didn’t get eaten by the jam while stuck in rush hour traffic–to find shelter from the jam and figure out why it happened. In this story, Australia finds itself one day swarmed by an immense sea of red jam that eats all organic matter. Now Yahtzee has set his sights on another trending genre: post-apocalyptic fiction, which brings us to JAM. It was a great parody of MMORPGs like World of Warcraft and the video game industry in general. I’ve always liked his comedy and his complex analogies, but I really appreciated him as a writer when I read his first novel Mogworld. One of the Internet personalities I follow regularly is Ben “Yahtzee” Croshaw, a fast-talking video game reviewer with his own show, Zero Punctuation.
